We left Portland at 3:30 pm Friday. As we continue south we no longer see snow, but it rains. The force of the wind pushes the wipers off the windshield, making it difficult for Ramiro to see. It’s getting dark and after 2.5 hours we reach a Shell Station 30 miles north of Eugene.
We fill up with Diesel and feel comfortable to fill the water tanks. We no longer expect heavy frost. We ask permission to park for the night and make use of the slide outs, which makes the living room area twice as wide.
Kai and Marcela do the dishes after supper and we all get ready for bed.
Saturday December 20
Saturday turns out to be another rainy day, but it’s better than snow or the freezing rain and blizzard that was predicted.
We turn west off the Interstate and realize what it was the weather man had been talking about. We drive through a beautifully forest covered by fresh snow. At least the roads are more or less clean which makes it a safe drive.
We stop for lunch, open up a few cans of soup and warm up some cheese buns.
We now follow the Oregon line encountering more rain. We really rather not drive past dusk, but one of the few -all year- campgrounds we have in mind is still a ways ahead.
We finally pull in at 6 pm and are assigned a nice spot with lots of space and a view of the ocean, which doesn’t really do us any good since it it pitch black and it’s raining.
So we spend another evening indoors and try to check our mail with an on again off again internet connection.
