California here we come

Sunday, December 21

Look Mom, no scarfs and no gloves! It’s warm enough to go for a walk. Humid, yes, but I want to walk to the ocean. It feels good to be outside and we all do something to take advantage of the mild weather. Ramiro decides to empty the sewer tank and makes a real mess of himself. Don;t you know you’re suppose to wear coveralls when you do that?

The windshield wiper is still giving us problems, until Ramiro comes up with an invention. He ties a bungy elastic to both wipers and it works! But the rain has stopped. Ha,ha.
We are now about an hour north of the California state line and eat all oranges and hide the avocadoes. Some fruits are not allowed to be brought in from one state to the other and they are certainly not getting it from us.

One thing we did not expect to see once in California was snow, but we did.
Gee, it looks like it’s following us wherever we go.

Our next stop is Fortuna. Home of Barney and Joan Elking, who almost 40 years ago helped Ramiro and his family emigrate to Canada from Chile. They became close friends and have been as parents to Ramiro.
It turned out that Barney and Joan had counted on us for dinner and had also invited their children Mark and Karen. It’s been seven years since we saw them last and they haven’t seen Marcela for 30 years.
What a wonderful dinner and visit this was. We watch the racoons as they come into the yard and eat the cat food.
We say googbye well after nine pm and leave Fortuna to find another truck stop 10 minutes down the road along the 101 where we park for the night.
