No more talk about the weather

Monday December 22, 2008

I promise not to talk about the weather unless we have at least a full hour of sun and temperatures that allow us to be outside without a winter coat or rain jacket.

We’re leaving the coast this morning and plan on making a lot of progress.
While Ramiro is driving, Kai is his co-pilot, Marcela plays games with Bella and Elly plans the route and checks on the next camp site for the night.
We’re getting closer to Sacramento and actually plan on going a bit further than that today.

Who wants to go to MacDonald? Now, that would be a nice break form the soup and sandwiches inside the RV.

Since I am not able to take many pictures from the scenery, I decide to take one at MacDonalds while Marcela is ordering lunch. I then go to the bathroom and one of the employees follows me. “Did you take a picture in there” she asks. I answer “yes”
“Why” she asks. “Well, I am making a journal of our trip and want to include a picture of the family at MacDonalds. Is there a problem with that?”
“Oh, you took a picture in front of the counter?”
“Yes” I said “no employees”, and she left.
Once I am back in the restaurant, I notice that all the employees are Mexican. Would it be possible, that there are some illegal aliens working here, who rather not be exposed? It’s a good thing I did not tell here the picture is going on the blog.

We turn east through a great vacation spot along Clear Lake and see our first palm tree. There are many cottages here and lots of opportunities for boating.

Then all of a sudden we see a huge change, from lush forest to desert like area, and in the distance............. I can’t believe my eyes. Is that blue? and what’s that bright object that shines on my hand as I write this. Get my sunglasses, quickly, I can’t handles this brightness.

I put my Sudoku book away. I like what I see and don't want to miss a thing; Olive trees, palm trees, vineyards and the road that meanders through the mountains.
I think it’s fair to say that we will not not see any more snow from here on.
We finally turn the furnace off and before we hit the Interstate again, we stop at Williams to stretch our legs and check out some of the stores.
Two more hours on the road and then we stop. It’s dark again as we pull into a huge RV park, with paved pads and nice landscaping. There are lots of rigs parked here.

Happy hour was well deserved after this long day of driving. We put on at least 500 kilometers today.
Again no internet connection. The signal is too weak.
We watch the news and see how Portland is covered with 12 inches of snow. Flights have been canceled and passengers are stranded at the airport and bus station. Seattle is no different. Are we ever lucky that we made it out of there on Friday.
