I am smart enough today to get up a bit earlier and bring my camera on my walk.
The sunrise is just as beautiful as yesterday and there is not a soul in sight. Just me and the birds and a beautiful clear sky. I consider myself very fortunate that I may experience this. The air is cool, but for a brisk walk it is nice, because it warms me up quickly.
I hope to go into the pool today but we need to check Mom’s flight and spend over and our on the web and telephone to get the correct information.
Well, I guess I can always swim next week, since we will be here for a while.
We change our plans for the day and instead of going to Tonola which is a good hour and a half drive we BBQ some fish and decide to drive along the lakeshore, and visit some of the villages. As we get closer to Ajijic, there are plenty of places to stop. With such a large population of North Americans, who are all furnishing homes here, you find wonderful artisan shops. We stop at a weaver shop and watch the two guys. One is spinning the wool on an old bicycle wheel, while the other is making a beautifull wall hanging with a Mayan Indian face from a paper pattern spread out on the floor. Strands of wool on the paper pattern indicate which colour to use at what place. “It take 15 days to complete this wall hanging” the Mexican weaver explains.
We stop at a furniture store and a few pottery places. Most of the stuff is locally made, but don’t be surprised to find stuff made in China. I want to buy every thing. No, I want to buy a house so I can furnish it with all this beautiful stuff. I love the styles and the colours.
We turn into Ajijic and visit a 19 unit, super modern suite rental place. We inquire about prices and ask to see one of the suites. Luckily, an Edmontonian who just moved in is willing to show his suite. Not bad, cooking facilities, large TV, patio or balcony, sitting area and best of all, a large common pool. Not bad for $600US per month. We need to keep this in mind for next time. We may not bring the RV here again. Transportation is no issue, just walk out on the street and the bus stops wherever you want them to along the main road.
We drive to the square, which as any square, is full of activities. We walk around and Mom and I visit a gallery, while Ramiro sits and waits on the bench. If he only knew what was going on on the bench beside his.......
We treat ourselves to a drink before we drive to Hacienda Chapala, onto the mountain road. About every third home is for sale and there are some very nice ones here. We drive by some of the homes we were shown last March by the realtor. I am sure a bargain is to be found here, but for us this is not the time.
We’d love to keep on driving bu it is time to go back home. We broke our own rule and did not make it home before dark. We should know better. The roads are not safe after sunset. People drive without lights, children play on the road and you can’t see the speed bumps. Better next time. We know by know that by 7 pm it is dark, pitch dark.
