A day in Cofradia de Suchitlan

Friday, January 9, 2009

As my free time is starting to get shortened with the various activities and people around at the only place I have access to internet. I will give you a short description of our day.
6:00 am - Wake up from tremor
7:00 am - Wake up turn around one more time. It’s too early
8:00 am - Get up with a fat eye. Must be insect bite. Apply Cortisone cream.
9:00 am - Stuff back pack with Computer. Walk to Hacienda to update blog and check e-mails
11:00 am - Haircut for 30 Pesos. Nice Job. I’m happy.
12:00 pm - Back to the Hacienda, transfer money via web. My friend Paula Skypes me from Holland. So nice to talk to her. Fireworks.
1:00 pm - Walk back to our acreage for lunch
2:00 pm - Start the washing machine, take in some pants (I shrunk) clean up, hang the laundry, enjoy the sun. Ramiro takes Siesta.
6:00 pm - One hour walk with Ramiro in the mountains
7:45 pm - Put bottle of wine in backpack, See the fireworks as we walk to Hacienda for cocktails and dinner with Ted, Susan, Kathy, Joe and two new volunteers from Arcada, California: Barb and Ron.
Tina is an excellent cook. Every day she comes up with a different meal.
9:30 pm - Walk back home. Straight to bed.

There are lots of those tiny nasty little No-see-ems, that bite like mosquitos. I am not suppose to scratch, but how can you not?
I learn to apply citronella oil on my legs before I go outside. Ramiro learns to wear long pants only. He never scratches.

We enjoy the peacefulness of our place, and feel very safe here. We keep the blinds on the sunny side closed, so it does not get too hot inside. There is a cool breeze that comes in to the open windows on the north side.

We are starting to get into a bit of a routine are all rested from our exhausting trip and look forward to take part in all the activities during the volunteer week.
Today the majority of the volunteers will arrive and Sunday the workweek officially starts. I will continue to take pictures and write about our experiences, but it may not be on a daily basis.
